Pay Floor Policy

Every active hourly and monthly job on Remot must meet a published minimum for its experience level. Project budgets are scope-based and reported separately.

Current floors by experience level

Experience levelMinimum hourlyApplies to
Entry$5/hrRoles open to candidates with 0–1 years of relevant experience.
Mid$7/hrRoles requiring 2–4 years of relevant experience.
Senior$10/hrRoles requiring 5+ years of specialized experience.
Lead$12/hrRoles requiring team leadership or deep subject expertise.
Executive$15/hrDirector, head-of, or equivalent accountable leadership roles.

Floors are expressed in USD-equivalent hourly pay. Monthly and hourly listings are normalized before comparison. Project budgets are not included in the hourly comparison.

How the floor is enforced

Hourly equivalent, not sticker price

Monthly salaries are divided by expected weekly hours to produce an hourly figure. Project jobs must show a starting budget, but remain scope-based, labeled separately, and excluded from the hourly-floor percentage.

Checked at publish time

The floor is enforced at the database row level, not only in the job-post form. Active hourly and monthly jobs also require starting pay, and monthly jobs require expected weekly hours.

Below guidance is a warning, below floor is a block

Posting below Remot's published planning range triggers a non-blocking warning. That range is editorial guidance, not a labor-market survey. Posting below the per-level floor hard-blocks publishing until the starting pay is raised.

What you’ll see if you’re blocked

A clear error message naming the required hourly floor for the selected experience level, along with a prompt to raise the starting pay — or (for monthly listings) to lower expected weekly hours.

Why we enforce a floor

The floor is not a recommended rate or a ceiling. It is the lowest amount Remot permits for a public hourly or monthly listing at each experience level. Employers should set pay from the role's skills, workload, schedule, and seniority.

Enforcement lives in the database as well as the form, so the same active-listing rules apply to normal publishing and direct API writes. Draft, closed, and expired jobs remain editable in private.

Disagree with a block?

If you believe your post was incorrectly blocked — for example, if the hourly equivalent calculation doesn't match your intent — raise it through contact support. Include the job title, posted pay, expected hours, and the experience level selected. We'll review and respond within the next business day.
